Frequently Asked Questions

So, what is chiropractic?

The only health care system that works to maximize the natural, God-given strengths of the human body and its capacity to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.

What is subluxation?

Your brain controls everything in your body.  An extension of your brain is your spinal cord.  Your spinal cord has extensions called nerves that run everything in your body.  Surrounding your spinal cord is your vertebrae.   If one of your vertebra moves out of alignment it is called a subluxation.  If the vertebrae housing the nerve that runs to your digestive track is subluxated, it won’t work properly.  You may experience digestive problems.  The Doctor works on subluxations putting them back in their place (adjustment)  so your body can function at 100%.

So… we don’t “crack” anything here?

Absolutely NOT!  The work “crack” is a swear word here. J  We use the word “adjust/adjusting”.  The reason for that is because “cracking” to us refers to guess-work.  Adjusting refers to specificity – and that is what we do here.

What causes subluxation?

A fall, injury, sudden jar, or trauma can displace a vertebra. Other causes include improper sleeping conditions or habits, poor posture, occupational hazards, incorrect lifting practices, obesity, lack of rest and exercise, and stress.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is given to align the subluxation to take pressure off the spinal cord and nerves. This will restore proper nerve supply to the body's organs and allow normal body function. An optimum functioning spine equals optimum health.

How does an adjustment feel and how long will it take?

Patients report that being adjusted feels great. However, in some cases the individual may be sore the first couple of times. An adjustment takes only a minute or two, but the vital nerve energy it releases can last for hours, days, or even weeks, depending on the stage of your care

What research has been done on chiropractic?

Literally thousands of health studies including research by the U.S. government have shown that chiropractic is beneficial in maximizing health, boosting immunity, relieving the symptoms of sickness and disease, and restoring normal function back to the body.

Should I be adjusted if I am sick?

YES! An adjustment will help your body regain control and balance to better fight off your condition.

Can I be adjusted if I have had an operation on my spine; have old, weak, brittle or broken bones?

There are many very gentle techniques that can be employed to assure proper safety for every patient – from newborns to the elderly.

Can I be adjusted if I am pregnant?

For normal development of the baby and ease and safety of the birth, being adjusted during pregnancy is essential.

Can I adjust myself?

No. Even chiropractors need chiropractors to adjust them. The worst spines are those of people who manipulate their own spines. Manipulation can even be dangerous. An adjustment moves a specific subluxation in a specific direction.

What is Gonstead?

Well, just like there are different specialties in medicine, there are different specialties in Chiropractic.  The Doctor specializes in the Gonstead Specific technique.  When you go to chiropractor that does NOT do Gonstead they will ask where it hurts and then push in that general area and move several of your bones in your back, guessing at where the problem is and hoping they got it.   The Doctor specializes in the Gonstead technique which includes taking xrays so we don’t guess with anyone’s health.  He also uses a nervoscope that detects your own body’s communication with its nerves to your organs and tissues.  When he adjusts you, it is specific only address the 1 bone that is out of place so that the nerve going to your organs and tissues can work at 100%.  For example if the nerve going from your spine to your heart is being subluxated or cannot communicate with your heart, The Doctor will move that bone off of your nerve so that your heart can communicate and function at 100%
